The Accounting Peer Partners Program (A3P) is designed to match students in Introduction to Financial Accounting with more experienced accounting students in Intermediate Accounting I. Through regular face-to-face and online contact with your peer partner, I hope you will develop a stronger sense and understanding of financial accounting. Less experienced students in Acct 202 will benefit from the knowledge and experience of students in Acct 301. In turn, Acct 301 students will improve their understanding of material as a result of explaining it to their partners. I also anticipate the accrual of other benefits, such as discussions about the world of business and accounting, advice about choosing accounting as a major, and opportunities to make new friends.
Accounting peer partners will be assigned based on a matching of partner biographies. I will do my best to honour your first or second preference for a peer partner. Once the partner assignments are made, it is up to the student in Acct 202 to make contact with the peer partner.
On the 15th and 30th of each month, participants in the A3P will submit a one-page update about their experiences. At the end of the semester the peers will hand in a brief (two pages maximum) reflection paper about the program. I encourage you to use the services of the Campus Writing Center in the process of writing this reflection paper. Your paper needs to address:
- your expectations of the Accounting Peer Partner Program at the beginning of the semester;
- ways in which your partnership developed over the course of the semester; and
- your assessment of the Accounting Peer Partner Program as of the end of the semester.
Participants in the 3AP will receive credit toward their Class Participation grade. The primary incentive for you to be involved in the program should not be for "points", but for the potential growth and understanding you will gain over the semester.
