MC Men’s and Women’s Tennis to serve up some heat

After several changes from the 2005 season, the MC Tennis teams are eager to begin yet another exciting year. This year, two new faces will lead the Pioneers out onto the court. The Women’s Tennis team will be led by a new head coach in Kesha Bradford, the Women’s assistant basketball coach. The assistant men’s basketball coach, Jesse DuPerow, will also assume a new role as head Men’s Tennis coach.

Another change that both the Men’s and Women’s tennis teams face is a young roster.

After losing several of last year’s players, the Women’s team will rely on the experience of only three returning letter winners: Senior, Lauren Stermer; Junior, Katie Chadwell; and Sophomore Elizabeth Smith. The three returners will join with a host of new talent to battle the OAC.

The team moved up two spots in the OAC ranking last year, and this year they hope to pick up right where they left off. The women will open conference play on Tuesday, March 28 as they take on rival Muskingum College at 4:00 p.m. at the Beren Tennis Center here at Marietta College.

Age will also play a factor in the Men’s team, as they too have a young team to work with. The team is led by seniors Shaun Kreiner and Thomas Konsen, junior Eddie Yu, and sophomores Mark Briggs, Ryan Callihan, and Eric Taylor.

The men look to improve upon their record from last year which was disappointing. With a lot of talent and a lot of heart, don’t be surprised if the Men’s Tennis team causes quite a few upsets this season.
