March 3, 2006 STUDENT ART SHOW By JASON E. WEBER The art gallery on the third floor of Hermann was empty for one day. Now it is once again full of art work. This year’s student art show is hanging and will have its opening on March 4 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The show is an amalgamation of styles and media created by the students of this year’s various art classes. Featured in the display are ceramics, jewelry, charcoal drawings, graphic designs, acrylic and oil paintings, monoprints, block prints, photography, digital illustrations, and mixed media. The highlight of the event will be the judging of the pieces by three distinguished members of the Marietta College community. Harry H. Esbenshade III, a name that is quite familiar on campus, will be deciding the three best of show awards. President Jean Scott and Provost Sue DeWine will denote one piece each as the President’s Choice and the Provost’s Choice respectively. This year, the Marietta College AIGA will be sponsoring a “Student’s Choice Award.” This honor will be decided by all of the students currently taking studio or graphic art classes. This show should prove to be a fun experience for the casual art-goer and hopefully will bring in new observers who will come back for the Senior Show later this year. Gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. For more information contact the art department at (740) 376-4695. Information in the article was contributed by Tom Perry, Director of College Relations, (740) 376-4408.
