Ever get the feeling that campus tends to wind down after spring break? This April a band by the name of Recycled Percussion with it’s hip hop inspired vocals and body percussion will be bring it energy to campus. The “Rock Your Junk” tour is set to hit MC April 7, soon after we return from spring break. The best part - it’s going to be a free show, sponsored by CUB, Student Senate, and Siberman, a large student activities fund.
Recycled Percussion is best known for their unique style of “junk rock”. The concert isn’t just music, it’s a performance, with group members using parts every household item thinkable to produce their distinctive sound.
The group has been a 2 time national college group of the year and has appeared on various television shows including NBC’s “Today” show. They also have the world’s fastest extreme drummer, “Sir Justin” Justin Spencer, the other two drummers are Greg “Poug” Kassapis, Ryan “Skinny” Vezina, and turntable musician DJ Dirty Soul, also known as Jerami Bellofatto.
CUB President Samantha McKay said she’s excited to host the band and see their show again. “I’ve seen them twice now and was blown away each time. I am so thrilled we can bring them to Marietta College for everyone to experience, especially free. The sounds, lights, drumming, energy, tricks, sweat, and special effects make it a truly amazing show,” she said.
The stage set is full of drum sets, buckets, industrial drums, and large power tools. The music is intricate and musically different from any other act. CUB member Dave Welch was also said the show was much different from anything else.
“I realy liked their show. It was unique, like nothing I’ve ever seen before,” he said.
The music has no specific genre, and it will be a totally different experience. Besides, as Jessica Diaz said, “Who can pass up a set of hot drummers?”
