Annual Drag Show set for this Saturday
By WILL KAUFF

What do wigs, heavy makeup, and duct tape all have in common? According to an inside source, they will all be present this Saturday as the Marietta College Rainbow Alliance hosts it's annual drag show. This event is the culmination of the 2006 Pride Week, when everyone gay, straight, bisexual or asexual has a chance to celebrate the diversity of our sexual orientations.
The show will feature three local talents, two of which can be seen each week at Club Utopia in Parkersburg and they are Lucy Lipps and Jacqueline Guys, the other performer who usually participates in special events such as MC Pride is Kristina LXXXXX. They will be doing a wide variety of songs ranging from the drag show standards to some of today's top 40 hits.
The organizers of the event feel that this is a great way for people to get that first experience with a drag show, as it's in a location that isn't too threatening and the majority of those around you will be experiencing this for the first time also, if it helps just think of it as a talent show. All proceeds from the event will benefit Equality Ohio, which is a group that fights for equal rights for all residents of Ohio, a minimum donation of two dollars is requested.
The group is also sponsoring a raffle ticket sale, with a limited number of tickets being sold so that people have better chances to win the prizes. The prizes for this drawing have come from a variety of locations, some as a donation or some purchased by the Rainbow Alliance. The following local businesses have all donated to the contest: Twisted Sisters, Hawaiian Tans, Movie Gallery, Coffee Connection, Guyz and Galz, Charles Hairdresser, and the Marietta College Bookstore.
The Drag Show will go up at 8:00 p.m. this Saturday in the Gathering Place. For more information contact Will Kauff at kauffw@marietta.edu or any member of the Marietta College Rainbow Alliance.
