MC Football makes a coaching change

Marietta College football will have a coaching change up for next season. Offensive coordinator Curt Wiese has been promoted to head coach, according to Athletic Director Debbie Lazorik during a press conference held Tuesday, March 21st.

Wiese will fill the vacancy left by outgoing Head Coach Todd Glaser, who left the team for a head coaching position at his alma mater, Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Lazorik said continuity within the team’s coaching staff was important. She believes Wiese will continue the hard work Glaser has put in during the last three years.

“I am pleased to announce that Curt Wiese will take over as head coach and continue the work that has been started by Todd Glaser,” Lazorik said.

The announcement came as a surprise to both the football team and the Marietta College community, however Wiese said he is optimistic for the upcoming season.
“Our philosophy and guidelines will remain the same. Todd has built what we’re ready to take over, and recruiting will be our biggest challenge,” Glaser said.

Wiese also chose to fill the vacancy for defensive coordinator with Ben Halder, who has been an offensive coach for the past three seasons. The defensive coordinator position was left vacant recently when defensive coordinator Tony Jennison resigned to take the same job at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn.

Halder said he is excited for the upcoming season and believes the team is headed in the right direction. “I am very ready for this job,” Halder said. “I want to build off of what Jennison has built as a foundation on the defense.”
Wiese will also serve as offensive coordinator next season. He believes the collaboration between him and Halder will be successful.

“Glaser was a defensive sided coordinator, and I’m offensive minded, that’s why I’m confident in Ben Halder as a strong defensive coordinator,” Wiese said.
