A choral weekend in store

By JASON E. WEBER

This weekend should prove to be quite an eventful one for the Marietta College Department of Music. There will be three major events including a Memorable Mozart Concert featuring the MC Concert Choir, the MC Oratorio Chorus, and the River Cities Symphony Orchestra performing an evening of Mozart including his masterpiece, “Requiem.”

Before all that excitement, however, the choir will have an alumni reunion where anyone who has sung in the choir will be invited back for a day of music making under the direction of Daniel Monek, current choral director, and former directors Gayle Walker and Mark Davis. The reunion will be held on Saturday in the Hermann Fine Arts Center. For more information or to participate please call (740) 376-4688.

Following the reunion at 7:00 p.m. in the Hermann Fine Arts Center Foyer there will be a concert featuring the reunion's participants teamed up with the MC Concert Choir and the MC Women's Choir. There will be a reception following.

The weekend will culminate with a Memorable Mozart Concert at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The concert will feature various Mozart pieces performed by the River Cities Symphony Orchestra including “Requiem,” a piece for orchestra and chorus that will be performed by the Orchestra and our very own Oratorio Chorus augmented by the Concert Choir. Tickets are available from the River Cities Symphony Orchestra by calling (304) 375-1812 or visiting their website at www.rcso.us.
