Lady Pioneers Softball looks promising
An impressive Spring Break starts off stellar season

When someone thinks about the athletic program at Marietta College, it’s common that the team most people think of is baseball. However, this doesn’t do justice to the other deserving team at MC that plays on a diamond.

From Sunday, March 12th, to Friday, March 17th, the softball team took part in the 2006 Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, FL. To say the Lady Pioneers did well would be the understatement of the century. They did so well, in fact, that they came home with an impressive 9-1 record. The Games consisted of teams from all over the country, and the Lady Pioneers battled against teams from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Massachusetts.

The good fortune didn’t end there, either. Upon their arrival home, the Lady Pioneers have gone 6-0, bringing their record to an astounding 15-1. The junior varsity team is also fairing well, and currently has a 2-2 record.

Some of the Lady Pioneers credit their winning ways to the brand new field, where they have gone undefeated, but one anonymous junior credited it all to “A lot of hard work and dedication. With excellent coaching and a great attitude every time we step onto the field.”

The Lady Pioneers have started off on the right foot, and look to only improve on their record. Last year the Lady Pioneers went 16-25, and 9-9 in the OAC. Already having defeated conference-rival Mount Union twice, the Lady Pioneers look to make a huge splash in both the OAC and in Marietta athletics.
