Fall Band Concert is only a few weeks away
By JASON E. WEBER

Walking through Hermann on a Monday or Wednesday evening, you can usually
hear the powerful sounds of band music echoing in the lobby. From where
does this music come? It is a recording the music department set up
to create ambience in the open hallways off building? Not at all! It
is the Symphonic Wind Ensemble hard at work preparing all sorts of delectable
pieces for your listening pleasure, and that hard work is about to come
to fruition. On Friday, October 27, 2006, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble,
joined by the newly formed Jazz Ensemble, will present for you a well-rounded
musical smorgasbord as they perform their fall concert.
The aim of the fall concert, in addition to showing off the fine talents
of Marietta musicians, is to present a wide array of music in an attempt
to suit all musical tastes. The introduction of the Jazz Ensemble, an
organization that after years of struggle will finally be performing
in a concert, should work to promote that aim. The program will include
jazz band standards, music from Broadway musicals, Sousa marches, and
standard concert band literature.
This concert will be packed with music that relates to all musical
tastes," said Marshall C. Kimball, director of bands at Marietta.
"Every individual will enjoy some special selection of music on
this concert. The programming for this concert has been geared toward
meeting the musical tastes of all attendees.
As a special treat, the concert band will give a performance of the
new Marietta College fight song, Marietta College Victory March.
The concert will be performed on the Fenton Court of the college's Dyson
Baudo Recreation Center at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2006. It
is free and open to the public, however a free will donation will be
taken during the course of the evening.
Tom Perry, Director of College Relations, contributed to this article.
