Marietta
women's soccer still kicking

Marietta College's Lady Pioneers Soccer team is having one hell of a
season. That's not school spirit talking-it's a fact, and the numbers
speak for themselves.
With a current record of 13-1-1, the Lady Pios are trouncing the competition.
Thirteen of the Lady Pios have scored at least one goal, truly making
each victory a team effort.
We've really spread the scoring around, said head coach
Patrick Holguin,
We've got some great leaders, but not one superstar.
Coach Holguin also stated that this has been the most successful season
he has seen so far, since he began coaching the Lady Pioneers six years
ago. Captain Amy Lehosit, a senior, confirmed
Coach Hulguin's statements. We're happy with how we've been doing,
but the season isn't over, said Lehosit.
Lehosit makes a good point; the Lady Pios still have three opponents
to face during their regular season. As for postseason hopes, We
have a good chance, said Lehosit. We're trying to stay focused
and reach our goal of qualifying for the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament,
as well as the NCAA National Championships.
Are the National Championships a far stretch for the Pioneers? According
to Lehosit, while no previous Lady Pioneer Soccer squad has made it
to nationals, the 2005 team's odds are the best yet.
The Lady Pios face Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday, Oct. 22, in the first
of two away games left in the regular season. The next time fans can
see the MC Lady Pioneers in action at home is on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at
3:30. They will finish their regular season on Oct. 28, when they square
off against Capital, in their final away game.
Regardless of how the rest of the season goes, the Lady Pioneers have
certainly had a season worth mentioning. Congratulations to the Women's
Soccer team for their stunning accomplishments.
