Confluence 2006 published

On Oct. 18, 2006, Marietta College and the Ohio Valley Literary Group published the 17th edition of Confluence , a literary magazine featuring poetry, short fiction and artwork by writers and artists across the United States and Canada.

Listed in the international Directory of Little Magazines and Small Presses, Confluence publishes a variety of authors, including several students from Marietta College, the East Central Consortium and professional writers in the United States and abroad. Funded by Marietta College organizations and Parkersburg, West Virginia-based Artsbridge, this volume of Confluence blends published writers bearing advanced degrees with undergraduate student writers venturing into the publishing world for the first time.

Comprised of works submitted by the writers themselves, either solely for publication or as part of an annual contest sponsored by the magazine, the work in Confluence represents a unique combination of innovative as well as tried-and-true literary techniques.

The 2006 edition features writing by Marietta College students Amelia Bitely and Ashley Wollam. Marietta College students Deborah Dreyer, Allison Paytosh, Samantha Armacost, Amelia Schroeder, Jane Grover, Ashley Vincelli, Neil Wilhelm and Stajah Hoeflich also submitted artwork for the latest edition.

The literary magazine is a cooperative project of Marietta College and the Ohio Valley Literary Group. MC students and faculty serve on editorial boards and act as consultants.

Confluence not only gives students an opportunity to express their creativity through art and writing, it also offers students the opportunity to learn how to effectively evaluate prose and poetry and to discover different writing techniques by reading other people’s work,” says Dr. Bev Hogue, member of the Confluence Board of Editors and chair of the Marietta College English Department.

Even as the ink dries on the 2006 issue, Marietta College is already accepting submissions for the next edition of Confluence , which will be released in the fall of 2007. Submissions must be postmarked between September 1, 2006 and January 31, 2007.
