‘You’ve Got Male’ is coming to the theatre near you

If you've been in a box, or at home every weekend, you might have missed one of the four theatre productions that have went up so far this year, but do not worry. Opening next Thursday, November 10, is the fifth production of the year, “You've Got Male.” Not to be confused with the movie a similar name, “You've Got Male” is a trio of short comedies that deal with the quite comical and often down-right crazy actions of men.

The first of the comedies is “The Midlife Crisis of Dionysus” by Garrison Keillor, and is the story of the day that Dionysus, Greek god of merriment and revelry discovered that he had turned fifty years old, and perhaps had to cut back on his orgies and wine. The production is directed by Bridget Kilcourse and features Nick Aylward as Dionysus. Also in the production are Kiley Caughey, Beck Hardt, Dominique Antommarchi, and Kellen Boyle.
Next up is “Fumed Oak” by Noel Coward. This play, directed by Adam Brown, is an “unpleasant comedy” about a middle-class family where the paternal figure, Henry Gow, played by Patrick Simone, is looking for a way out of his monotonous life, while his wife, Lizzie Van Dine, works to maintain control over him, their daughter, played by Sharee Fleming, and their mother-in-law, played by Karen Putman.

Finally, there is George Kelly's play, “The Flattering Word” directed by Kristy Boyd. In this play a pastor's wife, Liz Allard, is interested in seeing her friend, an actor played by John Welch, perform in an upcoming play. Unfortunately, her husband, Scott Nyitray, believes theatre to be unholy, and refuses to let her see. So, it is then up to Eugene the actor to persuade him that he is mistaken. The play also features Jackie Massé as Mrs. Zooker, a church worker, and Dana Baumgartl as Lena, Mrs. Zooker's daughter.

The three short comedies will run back to back to back as part of a complete evening of theatre in Studio 101 at Hermann Fine Arts Center on November 10, 11, and 12 at 8:00 p.m. and November 13 at 2 p.m. Tickets will be $6 for Adults, $5 for Seniors, $4 for Students, and as always free to all Marietta College Students, Faculty, and Staff. To make reservations, or if you have any questions or concerns about the production, please call the box office at (740) 376-4678.
