Strong finish for MC Men’s Crew at the head of the Schuylkill River

It may sound like an Italian pasta, but the word regatta in reality, especially in the world of college crew, is a synonym for all characteristics associated with a big-time rowing event that can dominate the schedule of a team.
This is just for any regatta. So how would the Marietta men’s rowing team respond at the Head of the Schuylkill, the largest one-day regatta in the world?
Pretty well, as a matter of fact. The Varsity Eight boat, with coxswain Devin Ohman and bow Zach Stimart, finished fourth overall at 12:14.06, the second-best collegiate time behind only Marist College. The New York and Pennsylvania Athletic Clubs finished first and second, respectively. In other races, the Varsity Four finished second in the Open Four event, while the Freshmen/Novice Eight finished 12th in the Kristopher Stewart Memorial.
The strong finishes set up the Marietta Crew teams for a strong season. All that remains on the fall schedule is the Braxton Frostbite Regatta for lightweights. After that comes a winter to be spent preparing for the more intense spring season, which will consist of a possible 10 events, depending on how well the team performs.
But after a successful showing on the world’s biggest stage, it doesn’t seem to be a stretch to figure Marietta will be among the top again this spring. |
