Harmar Tavern

205 Maple Street
Marietta, OH 45750
(740) 373-8727

Open 7 days a week. Food served until 9 p.m.

Cuisine: American.

Atmosphere: Extremely casual.

Price: about $5 for a sandwich.

Rating: 3.0/5.0

Atmosphere: Across the rolling Muskingum River and tucked into the picturesque Harmar Village, lies the relaxed Harmar Tavern and Grill. The restaurant is mostly a bar environment with the regulars sitting at the counter sipping beer, even at lunchtime. Sports paraphernalia and beer advertisements adorn the walls, and the television is always turned on, broadcasting ESPN or another sports-oriented channel.

Service: The Harmar offers self-seating. After only a moment, a waitress greeted us warmly and took our drink orders. She was very polite as we debated which sides to order and the all of the staff was always ready and available whenever we had any questions.

Food: The menu is composed of a variety of sandwiches, soups, and finger foods, as well as a daily special. We had to try their “sure to be famous” fried bologna sandwich with side orders of spicy curly fries, fried mushrooms, and beer battered onion rings. The sandwiches were fairly large and the portion of the sides seemed just right, even though we did go a little overboard with the sides. One drawback with the menu was that all of the options seemed to be deep fried. The Harmar is definitely not the place for individuals who may be counting calories.

Overall: The Harmar Tavern and Grill is a good place to go to grab some 25 cent wings or couple of beers, if you're of drinking age, in a bar environment. The food is fried, the atmosphere is oddly cozy, and the staff is just as nice as can be. Basically, it's everything a sports enthusiast could ask for.
