Sillerman to speak at
commencement

Laura Baudo Sillerman (’68), sponsor of Marietta College projects and buildings such as the new library and the Dyson-Baudo Recreational Center, will be providing the keynote address at the 2007 commencement ceremony.
Sillerman has previously been invited to speak at Marietta College commencements, but this is the first time that she has accepted the offer. She feels that this will be her opportunity not just to renew her ties with friends and fellow alumni but also to “leave the graduating class with something memorable.”

River Cities Film Series shows unconventional movies on campus

On February 16 and 23, the River Cities Film Series will display two films which challenge conventions; these films will be shown in the McDonough Auditorium. On February 16, Tristram Shandy will be presented; this comic adaptation of an 18th-century novel has been rated R for language and sexual content and will begin at 7:30 p.m. On February 23, the European film Chaos will show at 7:30 p.m.; this movie explores themes of sexism and racism through its depiction of the lives of a middle-class French couple and a North African prostitute.

Athletic Training team takes third at Ohio Quiz Bowl

Seniors Kyle Fejes, Lonnie Meyers, and Fizzy Ramsey brought home a third-place award in the eighth annual Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association Quiz Bowl. This team successfully reached the final round for the second year in a row in this Jeopardy-style competition, proving that athletic trainers can apply brains to the study of brawn.

Marietta College Forensics Team takes third at
Geneva College Tournament

Although the Marietta Forensics Team only fielded three competitors as the Geneva College forensics tournament--and one of them, junior Jakob Loukas, was on crutches at the time-- the team nonetheless won third place overall.
Loukas took third place in persuasive speaking, and team president Amelia Bitely (‘08) finished with two second-place trophies, a fifth place, and a sixth. They were led in points, though, by freshman Rebecca McCullough, who scored two first-place finishes, a third place, and a fourth place.

Students to participate in National Conference on Undergraduate Research

Juniors Ami Casis, Emmett McGinley, and Tian Zhang will represent Marietta College at a highly selective conference showcasing undergraduate research across the country. Casis will present research into the effects of specific medications on eye allergies.
McGinley will present on mathematics anxiety. Zhang will discuss the economic impact of immigrants. The conference will be held at Dominican University of California on April 12-14.
