By JASON E. WEBER

The stage once again will belong to the students of the Marietta College Theatre Department as two more student directors will lead their casts in two more productions as part of the 2006-2007 Studio Series. The two productions are Johnathan Marc Sherman’s “Women and Wallace” and Richard Greenberg’s “Life Under Water.” They will be performed together as one evening of theatre starting on Thursday, February 22nd at 8:00 p.m. in the Friedrich Theatre of the Hermann Fine Arts Center and will run February 22, 23, 24, and 25 all at 8:00 p.m.

The first play, “Women and Wallace” is directed by senior theatre major, Jason E. Weber. A young playwright himself, Weber was drawn to the script because he felt a kinship with the playwright, who wrote the play when he was only eighteen years old.

The play is the story of a young man named Wallace, played by sophomore Jeremy Jusek, who, after a tramatic event in his life, cannot interact with women. To illustrate this the playwright puts him in situation after situation where his awkwardness is forced to shine through. Ultimately he overcomes his past with the support of his first real love, Nina, played by Sharee Fleming. The play is a comedic story about growing up and learning how to live.

In addition to Fleming, “Women and Wallace” features an large ensemble of women that make up Wallace’s past relationships from flings to first kisses to family to doctors. The rest of this ensemble is made up of Liz Allard, Karen Putman, Maggie Smith, Beck Hardt, Jessica Jackson, Jasmine Rogers, and Britney Koser.

The second play of this double bill is Richard Greenberg’s one-act, “Life Under Water” directed by another senior, Dana Baungartl. The play is takes place during a late summer in the Hamptons. The play begins on a beach. A young man meets two young women and as the summer winds down a strange love tryst begins.

“Life Under Water” features Andrew Wind, Mandy Bics, Sara Raddell, Stephanie Tett, and Brandon Marino.

The interesting pairing opens on Thursday, February 22 at 8:00 p.m. and run Friday through Sunday, February 23 through 25. All shows are at 8:00 p.m. on the apron stage in the Friedrich Theatre located in the Hermann Fine Arts Center. Tickets are $6.00 for adults, $5.00 for seniors, $4.00 for children and students, and free for all Marietta College students and employees.
