Student Art show opens this weekend
Marietta College's Art Department is honoring its students' artistic talents as it hosts its annual Student Art Show, which runs from March 3 to April 6 at the Third Floor Gallery of the Hermann Fine Arts Center.
The show opens with a special reception from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, March 3.
The Student Art Show gives students an opportunity to display their work produced since last spring. In order to display a piece of art, students were required to fill out an entry form and pay $2. After turning in the form and entry fee, students are able to submit up to six pieces of work.
"I enjoy seeing the students excited about having their work displayed and meeting the many parents who will be attending," said Beth Nash, who is organizing the event.
The show will feature paintings, drawings, prints, ceramics, photographs, graphic design, and interactive media completed by students since the 2006 spring semester.
The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public, with regular gallery hours of 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 1-10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Hermann Fine Arts Center is handicapped accessible.
"It is an opportunity to cheer on your friends who are involved in the art program and to see what kind of work is being produced," Nash said. "It is also a good opportunity for everyone to possibly purchase a piece of art for themselves to help remember their time at Marietta College."
