The Music at McDonough Series sponsored by the McDonough Center for Leadership and Business will continue this Friday night with a performance by inspirational jazz pianist and composer George W. Russell, Jr. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Alma McDonough Auditorium.
This is the second event since the Music at McDonough Series was revitalized last year. The series had existed in the early days of the program under the direction of then dean, Steve Schwartz, and current dean, Gama Perruci, is excited to have the program back.
"We are pleased to bring it back,” he said. “particularly as we honor the legacy of my predecessor-Steve Schwartz. It is a wonderful way to remember his contribution to the community's cultural life."
Russell has performed as a soloist, as part of the George Russell Trio, or as part of a soulful ensemble. He has performed with a number of legendary jazz artists
including Bob Moses, Billy Pierce, Stan Strickland, Stanley Clarke,
Lenny White, Semenya McCord, and Andy McGhee.
The evening of music will consist of a suite of Russell's own original compositions in addition to pieces by other well-known jazz composers, such as George Gershwin, Victor Young, and Henry Smith.
Following his selections, the Pittsburgh-native will hold a question and answer session to field any inquiries any of the audience might have.
The performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Alma McDonough Auditorium of The McDonough Center for Leadership and Business. It is free and open to the public.
