Track and Field making strides

Running is one of the most dated athletic feats in all of history. When they are broken down, almost all of the main stream sports across the globe involve running of some kind.
Whether it’s short bursts in football, running on ice for hockey, or sprinting 90 feet in baseball, running is a critical element of sport. Although all sports include running in some shape or form, many consider running by itself to be the purest form of athletic achievement.
Just as all athletes have their havens, whether it be the court or the diamond, the Marietta College Track and Field team finds their salvation on the rubber-covered oval that surrounds the field at Don Drumm Stadium.
If you were to go to and watch a practice, you’d immediately be engulfed by the entire track atmosphere.
With the indoor season coming to an end, the 2007 Track and Field team is ready to get things going outdoors as well. Senior Tim Roberts is exceptionally excited to get his final outdoor season underway. He believes that this could be the year that Marietta really breaks out in the OAC.
“We have a big team with a lot of young talent. I think if we can bring all of that talent together we have a lot promise this year,” said Roberts.
“Improving our placement in the conference is key. One of our main goals is to move from the lower rungs of the conference to the higher echelon. Overall improvement is something that we’re really looking for.”
The outdoor season is set to start over Spring Break, as the team heads down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to take part in the Coastal Carolina Invitational. The Invitational will be held on March 9 and 10.
When asked about his own personal goals in his final season, Roberts commented, “Personally, I hope I’m just able to do my best and come away with a victory here. Basically, though, I’d just like to improve overall.”
