April 5 , 2007 Provost to be President at Hanover Dr. Sue DeWine has served Marietta College and its students as the provost for almost seven years. Beginning on July 1, 2007 DeWine will take the lead role at Hanover College in Indiana as the college’s first woman president. Hanover’s Board of Trustees unanimously elected DeWine as president last Saturday, March 17. At Hanover, DeWine will be taking the place of Dr. Russell Nichols, who is retiring as president after 20 years of serving the college. DeWine will be the 15th president at Hanover. DeWine was introduced to the Hanover College community at the “Convocation of Presidents” in the Collier Arena of the College’s Horner Health and Recreation Center. DeWine is delighted with her new position at Hanover College. "I am honored to accept the presidency of such an outstanding college as Hanover," DeWine said. "I have been familiar with Hanover for some time and know that it enjoys a national reputation for quality education. I look forward to getting to know the faculty, students and employees of Hanover and moving the college to the next level of excellence." Hanover is the oldest four-year college in Indiana and was founded in 1827. It is a private, co-ed liberal arts college with an affiliation to the Presbyterian Church. Over 1050 students are currently enrolled at Hanover College and students come from 36 different states and 18 different countries. Marietta President Dr. Jean Scott is pleased with DeWine’s excellent opportunity. "During her almost seven years as provost of Marietta College, Sue DeWine has been an agent of change, an outspoken advocate for faculty and academic programs, a problem solver for students, a vibrant leader on campus and in the community, and a confidante for me as president," said Scott. "She has made her mark on almost every aspect of Marietta College's life, including the general education curriculum, the hiring and development of faculty, strategic planning, designing a new library and center for teaching excellence, and accreditation. The entire Marietta College community joins me in wishing Sue all the best as president of Hanover College." Scott is already beginning the search for the next provost for Marietta College. Scott has enlisted the help of the R.H. Perry firm to be the search consultants. DeWine will be leaving Marietta College with a long list of her accomplishments. DeWine has hired nearly 50 percent of the current faculty, developed a new staff orientation program, expanded teaching awards and introduced faculty awards for advising and research. As the Chief Academic Officer, DeWine is also largely responsible for the new library and the establishment of new master’s degree programs such as the Physician Assistant Studies Program and the Master of Corporate Media and Master of Arts in Psychology. Though DeWine is excited for her new job at Hanover College, she will still miss Marietta College, where she called home for the last seven years. "While Mike and I are excited about this opportunity, it will be very difficult to leave Marietta where we have made good friends and feel fully integrated into the life of the campus and community," DeWine said. "I hope I leave having helped Marietta College become a better institution. Marietta College is a wonderful institution with great leadership and a very dedicated faculty and staff. I am honored to have been a part of its success." |
