Dr. Peter Eigen to speak at MC
Dr. Peter Eigen, founder of Transparency International, will give a public lecture in the McDonough Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25.
Transparency International is a nongovernmental organization dedicated to increasing accountability and curbing corruption. Eigen’s research focuses on global governance as well as money laundering and corruption.
Eigen has worked in economic development for 25 years and is a lawyer by training. He has been a World Bank manager of programs in Africa and Latin America.
In 2006, Eigen became the chair of Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).
New inductees to Petroleum & Geology Hall of Fame at Marietta College
A professor emeritus in geology and two MC graduates will be inducted for 2007 into the Petroleum and Geology Hall of Fame.
Dr. Dwayne D. Stone, Dr. Ben Eaton ’62 and Dr. Keith K. Millheim ’63 will be recognized in ceremonies held Wednesday, April 25 at the Marietta Country Club.
The MC Department of Petroleum Engineering and Geology Hall of Fame celebrates outstanding accomplishments and contributions of its alumni and friends.
The Hall of Fame honors those whose innovation, leadership and dedication have advanced the interests of the industry, the college and the society.
Eaton created the Eaton Method for pore pressure prediction and fracture pressure prediction which is accepted around the world.
Millheim has earned industry-wide recognition as an engineer and consultant for some of the largest exploration and production companies around the world.
Stone has offered his expertise to the Marietta College geology department for many years. He also established the Stone Family Fund for MC. The Hall of Fame was established in 2006.
English Honorary Seeking Entries for Pulse
Sigma Tau Delta, the MC English Honorary is currently accepting entries for the 2006-2007 edition of Pulse, the college literary magazine.
To submit to Pulse, all entries must be typed and include a cover page bearing the entrant's name, campus address, telephone number, class, email address and a brief description of the item submitted. Submissions can be dropped off in the English Department or e-mailed to Wagner at ekw001@marietta.edu any time before 5 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2007.
Eligible entries for Pulse range from the typical literary magazine fare - poetry and prose (short stories, creative non-fiction, essays up to 2,000 words) - to avenues of self-expression more typical of a modern college student - Facebook/MySpace messages, blogs, emails and even text messages.
Pulse, published annually by Sigma Tau Delta, is a collection of the best writing the campus has to offer and is meant to represent all students in all disciplines.
