Dr. Bauer appointed to the OLRS Commission
Education students may remember their trial by fire as they assumed a disability for a day in Dr. William Bauer’s Diverse Learners class.
The rest of us may remember our surprise as our friends wheeled across the campus in wheelchairs, were guided to classes by patient friends as they pretended blindness, or attempted to pay attention in lectures through the screen of a self-imposed hearing disability.
Because Dr. Bauer has worked extensively with disability and learning since his arrival at Marietta College in 2002, his appointment to the Ohio Legal Rights Service (OLRS) Commission should come as no surprise.
This commission, which supports the legal rights of Ohio residents with disabilities, was founded in 1986 by the Ohio General Assembly to govern the OLRS. Bauer joins six other members on the commission, and he will serve there for three years.
As a member of this important organization, Bauer says, he has “been given the charge to develop a five-year strategic plan for the organization.” Marietta College hopes that his influence will give the commission with the ability to provide still more support for Ohio’s citizens.
