Doo Dah Day a day for all students to enjoy

Doo Dah Day.

Three words provide relief for pretty much every Marietta College student, with the exception of a few who will decide not to partake in the day’s events. I, for one, have and always will be joining in with the fun that is Doo Dah Day.

As a freshman I was so worried about Doo Dah Day that I was terrified when I walked outside for Mud Volleyball. This is a fear that I have kept with me ever since, mainly because I can’t stand being dirty, but my fear for the rest of the day has turned into pure anticipation. I can’t wait to spend the morning with friends and get a horrible tan because I refuse to walk around campus shirtless, even though I will be outside all day and get a ton of sun.

I can’t wait to spend the day listening to music, eating way too many hot dogs, playing on the inflatables, and taking a mid day nap after dinner, just so I can get up for the evening festivities.

The evening dance is always one of my most favorite events, whether it was the Foam Party, last year’s Graffiti Party, or this year’s planned Black and White Party, which reminds me of Laguna Beach. I can’t wait to get dressed up and head to the Gathering Place to dance until I can’t stand because - let’s face it - after a full day of this, you finally just pass out from exhaustion.

I know that from the sounds of this a lot of people are going to think that I’m going to be wasted the whole day, and that is their major issue with Doo Dah Day. While I might have a few drinks throughout the day (I’m 21) I don’t plan on spending the day in a drunken stupor, but rather just enjoying the day that CUB has planned.

It is because of this that I believe this is a Marietta College tradition that will stay for years to come, even though it might not paint the best picture of an MC Student. The college understands that we need the time to relax before finals, and this is a perfect way to do it!

While I’m sure that each person makes their own Doo Dah Day memories, this year will be one that is very memorable, because it’s the last time that the event will happen in Parson’s Field for a few years.

In the coming years, the Parson’s Field will be used for storage of the construction equipment for the new library, so it won’t be available for events.

I’m sure that CUB will find a way to plan around that in the future. Whether it will be held in the Hermann Bowl or the field near Bartlett, it will still be a fun event.

I hope that each and every MC student plans on joining in this year and not discounting the day as a drunken event for Marietta’s Party crowd.

But I realize that some people just aren’t fans of a day filled with free food, concerts, friends, and FUN!!!!
