The regional schools, including John Carroll, Mount Union, Baldwin-Wallace and Muskingum met at Don Drumm Stadium, where new records would be falling faster than the rain drops.

The Marietta Men would place third behind Mount Union and Muskingum. The Women’s team finished behind Baldwin-Wallace and Mount Union. Sophomore Jessi Larrison would break the school record in the 1500m run, with a time of 4:53.10 good for second place on the day.

The March 31 meet marked the first time both Marietta teams have placed ahead of John Carroll. Senior Brea Gardner finished fifth in the 3,000m Steeplechase, while setting the school record with a time of 12:50.87.

The Marietta College Men and Women both had great showings in many events, giving a great showing to build on later in the Track Season.

Junior Joanna Ferrell won the 100m dash with a time of 13.54. The women’s shot-put event was won by Sophomore Tiffany Kovacevich, with her best throw of the season (11.55m).

Senior Rachel Forman placed first in the hammer throw with a distance of 41.85m. In the 800m run, sophomore Jered Mitchem placed first with a season-best time of 1:56.78.

Freshman Zach Gay took first place in the high jump with a strong 1.99m. Freshman Josh Mickle finished fourth in the 1,500 meters, setting a personal best with a time of 4:05.96. Another Freshman Shannon McDonald ran a personal best 19:21.83 in the 5,000 meters, good for second place in the event.

Breaking school records has become a theme for this year’s team. In the prior meet ( 3/24), sophomore Derek Carpenter took over the record for hammer throw, setting the distance at 43.79 meters. This throw surpassed Eric Finn’s mark of 43.68 meters set in 2005. Joanna Farrell set the school indoor record for the 200 meters (28.62) at a meet earlier this year.

At that same meet, Christi Tims set the indoor 300m record at 45.97. The next meet for Marietta College will be Friday, April 6, hosting the Don Frail Invitational. A dual Marietta / Muskingum meet will follow at New Concord Ohio on Aril 10. On April 14, the All- Ohio Championships will be played, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan. The Titan Invitational will be played in Pennsylvania on April 21, followed by a trip to Baldwin-Wallace on the 28 to partake in the Sparky Adams Invitational.
