Students win two awards at National Broadcasting Society Convention
Marietta College's Department of Communication and Media Studies has its own version of the "Fantastic Five."
Instead of comic book heroics, these students displayed deftness and versatility at the annual National Broadcasting Society Convention in Chicago. The students—Viktoria Jurkovic, Scott Nelson, Jessie Offenberger, Chuck Turberville and Josh Walker recently received the top honor in two competitions in the On the Spot Video Production contest. They won for News and Feature.
"This is a very big deal!" said Marilee Morrow, assistant professor of communication and media studies. "The OTS is an intense, deadline-oriented competition.
Basically, all you see during the competition is stressed out students running around the convention center with cameras. It shows we have an impressive group of students."
In the news category, Marietta's team reported on a building fire in Chicago. The video package included an interview with a women being placed into an ambulance. Judges said Marietta's footage and hard work gave their piece an edge over the others.
