Corporate
Communications Major
Students
in this major receive concentrated attention in both the theory and
use of modern communications tools. It is tailored for those who expect
to work with mass media systems inside the institutional setting. Common
placements include larger corporations with in-house communication staffs,
non-profit public service agencies, and governmental information units.
Completion of this major provides competence in all of the various communication
devices, systems and tools, making it one of the broadest areas of communication
studies. This major equips students to create specialized communication
programs for employees, consumers, business partners, stockholders,
communities, and governmental agencies. The major is based on the premise
that these are management tasks, rather than technical skills. Thus,
emphasis is placed on understanding business organizations, as well
as media theory and systems.
