Prior to working as an instructor, Lori Smith served as Advertising
Director of The Marietta Times and had been in the newspaper
business for over 17 years. She held a number of advertising positions
with the Gannett Company, including sales, sales management and commercial
printing consulting.
She has a Bachelors of Science in Journalism degree from Ohio University
where she majored in advertising and minored in English and math. She
graduated with honors in 1982.
In 1989 she won the President's Certificate of Achievement, which is
awarded annually to the top 10 Gannett advertising managers. She has
attended a number of sales and marketing training conferences and has
been active in the community through United Way, Rotary, and a local
leadership program called Telesis.
Married to Mass Media adjunct Art Smith, they
are the parents of two young daughters.
She has served as an Adjunct Instructor in the Mass Media Department
since 1999, and has taught Introduction to Advertising, Mass Media and
Society, Advertising Campaigns and Advertising Copywriting and Design.
She also is the Advertising Advisor of Marietta College's student newspaper,
The Marcolian and helps raise funds
for WMRT radio through corporate grants.
