John Bancheri


Men's Coach / 3rd Year

A 1983 graduate of the University of Charleston, with a bachelors degree in history, Bancheri begins his third season at the helm of the men's crew program. Bancheri came to Marietta from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kan., where he served as head coach of both the men's and women's programs for seven years. Bancheri's Wichita State crews won several regional championships and medals at the Dad Vail Regatta. He also served as the president of the Midwest Association of Rowing Colleges.Prior to Wichita State, Bancheri was the women's coach at the University of Charleston (W. Va.). He was responsible for the development of the women's program from its inception. His Charleston crew won Southern Regional championships. Bancheri was selected as a participant in the Inaugural Level II coaching Workshop in Miami Beach, Fla.

Bob Garbutt


Women's Coach / 2nd year

A 1990 graduate of Princeton University, with a bachelors degree in history, Garbutt earned his law degree from Rutgers in 1994. Garbutt comes to Marietta from Atlantic City High School where he was the assistant boys crew coach for five years. Atlantic City's 1994 crew won the boys national championships and placed second at the Henley Royal Regatta in England. While at Princeton, Garbutt played three years of football and rowed crew for one season. He earned numerous awards for his rowing. Garbutt has won several rowing championshios since graduation form Princeton. In 1994 he won both the South Jersey Doubles an d Cape May County Singles Lifeguard rowing championships.
