Marietta College officials are pleased to announce they signed an agreement
of cooperation with Bangkok University on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003.

The agreement
allows the two institutions to cooperate for mutual benefit, in areas
such as exchanges of faculty and researchers, students in study-abroad
programs, and special programs that each institution may create.
“On behalf of Marietta College, it is my pleasure to enter into
an agreement for student and faculty exchanges with Bangkok University,”
said Marietta College President Dr. Jean A. Scott. “The
friendship between the two institutions is well established, and the possibilities
for increased interaction are exciting. I personally have experienced
the hospitality of Bangkok University and President Thanu, and I know
that our students and faculty who will travel there to work and study
will find their time there intellectually stimulating and personally fulfilling.
I look forward to welcoming students and faculty from Bangkok University
to Marietta College.”
The visitors from Bangkok University on Tuesday included: President Thanu
Kulachol and his wife, Nongyao Kulachol, and
two academic assistants — Dr. Srisuda Chongsithiphol
and Professor Somchit Likhittaworn. During their visit,
they heard presentations by academic programs of interest, namely EMA,
Communication, Leadership, and ESL. They also visited the McDonough Leadership
Center for more information about their work in Leadership.
“We are very pleased to establish an agreement of cooperation with
Bangkok University,” said Dr. Janie Rees-Miller,
Director of International Programs and Director of English as a Second
Language. “This agreement will further Marietta College’s
core value of internationalization. Our emphasis on Asia is well represented
by our distinctive China Program, and this agreement with Bangkok University
will strengthen our Asian emphasis by expanding our connections to southeast
Asia.”
Founded in 1962, Bangkok University was one of the first private universities
in Thailand and is one of the largest with a total enrollment of 20,000
students. Within the University, there is an International College, in
which English is the language of instruction.
Bangkok University
International College offers bachelor’s degrees in marketing, communication
arts, business English, and hotel and tourism management. At the graduate
level, they offer an MBA and a master’s of communication arts. Two
Ph.D. degrees are offered: one in interpersonal communication, and one
in business administration.
