Welcome!
Marietta Community Service Day, or MCSD, is an
annual project started in 1995 in the city of Marietta. Its aim is to bring
together the Marietta College campus and the community to provide a day
of volunteer service in an effort to promote unity among the different
facets of the city.
What's New for '01?
This year, MCSD will be held on Saturday, April 7.
As always, the day offers many outstanding volunteer opportunities. This year,
there are 10 sites where service projects will take place.
They are:
The Anchorage
(Wash. Co. Historical Society)
Clark Center (Wash. Co. Alternative School)
Community Action Headstart
EVE, Inc.
Heartland Nursing Home
Incredible Community Playground
Marietta College Physical Plant
Marietta Family YMCA
Marietta Middle School
Washington County Recycling and Litter Prevention
Background and History of MCSD
MCSD was originally begun as a part of National Service Week, a week designated by President Clinton to highlight the service programs that go on day in and day out all over America. At the time of its inception, it was also a local form of National Youth Service Day, and at the time was called Marietta Youth Service Day. However, after rethinking the project and taking a comprehensive, community-wide approach to service, the project was renamed in 1997.
Here in Marietta, we believe it is important to
get together with fellow members of our community to help serve our society.
MCSD will benefit the entire community through service projects at 10 sites
city-wide. Each year thus far, more than 500 volunteers from all parts of the
community - schools, colleges, businesses, and individual citizens - have donated
more than 1500 hours of service to Marietta during this event. This year we
hope you'll join us.
But We Couldn't Do It Without YOU!
But of course, a huge project like this takes a lot of generosity and cooperation from everyone in the community. In order to reach our goal, we hope you will become a part of MCSD, because there are several ways to do so.
First and foremost, MCSD would be nothing but a dream if it were not for the volunteers, so we urge everyone in the community to come out and show their pride in the city of Marietta! MCSD is the largest event of its kind in our region.

In addition, we would never be able to actually complete the projects without materials and supplies such as tools, mulch, paint, cleaning supplies, and the like.
Your participation is essential in making MCSD
a continuing, successful tradition! We hope you will join us for MCSD '01!
