We don't go on field trips in Leaders in Environmental Activism, but we do bring speakers in. Local environmental activist and Ohio Division of Natural Resources botanist Marilyn Ortt (right) is seen here discussing an endangered mussel species with mussel expert Dr. Tom Watters (third from right). Biology Faculty member Dr. Steve Spilatro is searching for mussels in the background. The Muskingum River (pictured) is still one of the greatest sites of mussel diversity in the world. Marietta College is located at the junction of the Ohio and Muskingum Rivers. This course is offered as an elective in the McDonough Leadership Program and in the Environmental Science major and the Environmental Science minor. It is offered every other year. Syllabus
