Dr.
Daniel Monek is an Assistant Professor of Music and chairman
of the music department at Marietta College. He directs the Concert Choir,
Women's Choir ,Chamber Singers and Oratorio Chorus. In addition to his
ensemble responsibilities, he teaches applied voice and music history.
He has received his Ph.D. in music from Edinburgh University (Scotland)
and holds degrees in Music Education and Vocal Performance from the University
of South Florida and the University of Florida. Monek has taught music
in Florida's public schools and was the founding Artistic and Musical
Director of the New Edinburgh Orchestra in Edinburgh, Scotland. He has
served as the musical director of several churches, as Secretary/Treasurer
for the Florida Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association,
and as Chairman of the Scotland Association of the British Choral Directors.
He currently serves on the board for the Central Division of the American
Choral Directors Association as the Editor-in-Chief of Resound,
the division's newsletter. Dr. Monek is also a member of the Music Educators
National Conference, Ohio Music Educators Association, Music Teachers
National Association, College Music Society, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Dr.
Ronda King, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands,
comes to Marietta College from Mesa State College in Grand Junciton Colorado
where she served as Director of Bands and Music Education. She holds a
Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and a Master of Education in Music
from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Ph.D. in Music Education
from The Ohio State University. Dr. King was the first winner of the Richard
Heine Arranging Competition sponsored by The Ohio State University Marching
Band. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Music Educator's National Conference,
and OMEA. She taught public school in her home state of Missouri for 10
years, at both the elementary and secondary level, and has been active
as both a clinician and as an adjudicator in Missouri, Arkansas and Colorado.
in addition to directing the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Mallet Mania, and
Jazz Band here at Marietta College, Dr. King coaches the woodwind quartet,
teaches applied brass and percussion, and Music for Elementary Teachers.
Elizabeth
Cummings who made her orchestral debut at age 15 with the Kanawha
Valley Youth Orchestra, also performed with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra
at 16. Both of her degrees, a B.M. from Ohio Wesleyan and a M.M. from
Eastman School of Music, are performance degrees. She is an accomplished
pianist who has given many solo and ensemble recitals at Marietta College,
Marietta, Ohio, in Charleston, WV, at Trombino's in Pittsburgh, PA, and
at Davis-Elkins College in Elkins, WV. She and her husband, Dr. H. Dean
Cummings, performed as a trombone-piano team for many years.
Cynthia
Lutz-Puls is a cellist who currently performs in The River
Cities Orchestra. As the founder of the Gliere String Quartet and the
Trillium Piano Trio and a Marietta College Piano Trio, she is an accomplished
and busy performer. She is an Artsbridge Catalog Artist and was awarded
a grant by the Henry Logan Foundation to fund her educational series called
"Exploring Composers." Cynthia, who completed a B.M. at the University
of Evansville in Indiana and a M.M. at Louisiana State University, teaches
a large class of Suzuki Cellists from ages 3 to adults.
