Constitution of the Marietta College Rainbow Alliance

Article 1 Name

The name of this organization shall be the Marietta College Rainbow Alliance.

Article II Objective

The objective of this Rainbow Alliance shall be two-fold. This group shall seek to educate the Marietta College campus and the Marietta community on issues, politics, and culture concerning sexual minorities while also promoting a safe and supportive environment.

Article III Members

The membership of the Rainbow Alliance shall consist of any member of the Marietta College community who wishes to support and advance the objectives of the group.

Article IV Officers

The officers of the Rainbow Alliance shall consist of a chairperson, and an assistant chairperson.

The officers shall serve a term of one academic school year.

If the office becomes vacant during the term, the office will be filled at the next meeting of the group.

Article V Meetings

The meeting time and place of the Rainbow Alliance will be determined by the members within the first two weeks of each semester.

Special meetings can be called by a majority of the group at any regular meeting.

Article VI Advisor

The advisor will be chosen by the group at the first meeting of each school year.

Article VII Committees

The Rainbow Alliance shall have no standing committees.

A special committee can be formed at any regular meeting by a simple majority vote.

Article VIII Policies

The regular meeting of the Rainbow Alliance shall be open forums for discussion of issues, politics, and culture concerning sexual minorities. These meetings shall be open to all members of the Marietta College community, and those who participate shall do so freely and in an uncensored manner.

The Rainbow Alliance shall not discriminate against anyone on the basis of sex, race, religion, creed, gender, or differing ability.

Article IX Amendments

This constitution may be amended at any regular meeting by a two-thirds vote of the members.

By-Laws of the Marietta College Rainbow Alliance

Article I Dues

The Marietta College Rainbow Alliance shall charge no dues, but instead will seek the support from the Marietta College community for its activities.

Article II Selection of Officers

The officers shall be selected at the second meeting of each school year.

The selection procedure shall follow the procedure laid out in Robert's Rules of Order.

Article III Officer Duties

The chairperson of the Rainbow Alliance shall:

Preside at all meetings of the Rainbow Alliance.

Maintain relations with college faculty and administration.

Represent members of the group at ceremonial functions.

The assistant chairperson of the Rainbow Alliance shall:

Perform the duties of the chairperson in the event of the chairperson's absence, or when requested by the chairperson.

Work in conjunction with the chairperson and advisor(s) on duties necessary to administering the objectives of the group.

It shall be the shared duty of the chairperson and the assistant chairperson to maintain accurate minutes of all Rainbow Alliance meetings and keep records of all income and expenditures of the Rainbow Alliance.

Should it be the decision of the chairperson and the assistant chairperson that their duties exceed their abilities, the may Appoint (with simple majority approval of the voting members) a Clerk whose duties will be those outlined in Item 3 of this Article and whose term shall run from the time of appointment until the next regular election.

Article IV Rules of Order

The Marietta College Rainbow Alliance shall be governed by Robert's Rules of Order.

In supporting the open forums format of the regular meetings, the group shall only loosely follow Robert's Rules of Order as guidelines.

Article V Quorum

Not less than one officer and three members of the Rainbow Alliance shall constitute a quorum at any Regular meeting. Lacking a quorum, members may meet and discuss issues, but no official business (formal recommendations, actions requiring a vote, etc.) may be conducted.

Article VI Amendments

These by-laws may be amended by a simple majority vote of the group assembled at any regular meeting.
