Marietta College announces that the 2003 homecoming court includes five queen candidates and four king candidates. The winners will be announced at halftime of the Pioneers' football game with Ohio Northern Saturday.
Queen candidates are seniors:
- Danielle McClelland, of Brunswick, was nominated by Sigma Kappa sorority. McClelland, the daughter of Richard W. and Terri S. McClelland of Brunswick, is majoring in advertising/public. McClelland, is the station manager for the college's television station and is vice president of new member education for her sorority.
- Leslie A. Harding, of Coshocton, was nominated by Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Harding, the daughter of Wallace H. Harding of Apex, N.C., and Ann M. Miller of Coshocton, is majoring in human resources. She was a tour guide for the college's office of admissions.
- Julianne R. Spaley, of McDonald, Pa., was nominated by Chi Omega sorority. Spaley, the daughter of James P. and Karen A. Spaley of McDonald, is majoring in human resource management/mathematics. She is a member of the college dance team and her sorority's activities chair.
- Valerie M. Hakes, of Worthington, was nominated by the Cultural Initiatives organization. Hakes, the daughter of James E. Hakes of Columbus, and Marla G. Hipsher of Worthington, is majoring in psychology. She is a member of Chi Omega sorority, the college dance team and is a senior interviewer for the admissions office.
- Elizabeth M. Schulz, of Kents Hill, Maine, was nominated by the Rainbow Alliance organization. Schulz, the daughter of David A. and Kathleen Schulz of Kents Hill, is majoring in musical theater.
King candidates are seniors:
- Timothy J. Tokarczyk, of Perry, was nominated by Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Tokarczyk, the son of William J. Tokarczyk of Ashtabula and Marilyn A. Tokarczyk of Perry, is majoring in English/political science. He is the Inter-Fraternity Council president and is a member of the college Union Board.
- Robert E. Blankensop, of Parkersburg, was nominated by Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Blankensop, the son of Robert E. and Linda G. Blankensop of Parkersburg, is majoring in management. He is the president of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
- Mark D. Showalter, of Tallmadge, was nominated by Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Showalter, the son of Jacob F. and Jean L. Showalter of Tallmadge, is majoring in advertising/public relations. He is the vice president of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
- Justin P. Lowe, of New Martinsville, W.Va., was nominated by Delta Upsilon fraternity. Lowe, the son of Robert E. and Mary E. Lowe of New Martinsville, is majoring in sports medicine. He is the vice president of risk management for the DU house and in the Alpha Gamma honor society.
Marietta College's homecoming theme this year is "Where everybody knows your name."
Events started Sunday with the submitting of a game day banner. Throughout the rest of the week each candidate must take part in all homecoming events such as a candidate game show, Munchies on the Mall, Community Service Day, Candidate Croon, cheer competition, and the parade, which begins at 11:15 a.m. Saturday.
The homecoming football game against Ohio Northern follows at 1:30 p.m. At halftime the homecoming king and queen will be announced as well as all the winners for the week.
