'Pride Week' exhibit begins Monday

The Rainbow Alliance at Marietta College is sponsoring an exhibition of work by the Marietta College community as part of its Pride Week, March 28 through April 2. The show will feature a collection of photos, artwork, poetry, and short stories relating to Pride Week, the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered community, "coming out," and what it means to be a "straight ally" to the GLBT community.

The exhibition will be held on the second floor of the Hermann Fine Arts Center, with an opening reception on March 28. The reception will include discussion of the work as well as refreshments.

The Rainbow Alliance is a group that seeks to educate the college and community on issues, politics, and culture concerning sexual minorities while promoting a safe and supportive environment. In the past, the Rainbow Alliance has brought a number of speakers to campus, held dances, and utilized "brown bag lunch" movies and discussions to help familiarize the campus community with the issues and lives of sexual minorities. The group welcomes all persons to join in working toward this goal, regardless of sexual orientation, identity, or expression.

Those who are interested in participating in Pride Week events or other activities of the organization can contact Missy Doll, the group's chairperson, or the Rainbow Alliance by e-mail at dollm@marietta.edu or rainbow@marietta.edu for more information.
