WTAP-TV 15 Parkersburg/MariettaMarietta College students observed a moment of silence in honor of a brave young man who lost his life to a hate crime.
Matthew Shepard was lured from a campus bar in Wyoming by two men.
He was driven to a remote area where he was beaten because of his sexual orientation.
Matthew died three days later from injuries, on October 12th, 1998.
His story has inspired thousands, including the Rainbow Alliance at Marietta College.
Alliance chairwoman Kayla Reiland says the group held the candlelight vigil in remembrance of Matthew and to remind everyone that hate crimes are real.
