Esculin
metabolism will be evident during the incubation at 35OC.
The black/brown color usually develops within 20 minutes.
A tube is tested for PYR metabolism after
several hours incubation with
the addition of the PYR reagent, with a red color developing within 1
– 2 minutes. Tubes can be
positive for both.
