Figures
‘A’ and ‘B’ show typical Beta-hemolysis.
In ‘A’, the zone of hemolysis lies near bacterial growth
whereas in ‘B’, hemolysis extends significantly further into the
medium. ‘C’ shows the
typical greenish-brown coloration of alpha-hemolysis.
Here a rather large zone has formed, although for some bacteria,
the hemolytic zone does not extend far beyond the edge of the bacterial
growth.
