Starch Agar Results

Look
for a zone of
clearing
in the medium around the perimeter of the bacterial
growth.
This indicates the release of amylase
which has
broken down the starch in the medium.
If the zone is present only directly below the bacterial growth,
this probably is not a positive result, but is due to the iodine reagent
not diffusing under the colony.
