My name is Jim Vogt. I was born and raised in New Jersey and I am currently a Junior at Marietta. I’m a Bachelor of Fine Arts Theater Major here and to state facts, Marietta was not on the top of my list of choices that included UCLA, Penn State, and UArts which I could have perceivably chosen. I wondered how good a program could be that didn’t have auditions to enter the program. As a result, Marietta College was an afterthought for a couple of months.

Once I finally took the trip out to visit though, things definitely changed. I was privileged enough to see a mainstage production in-the-round and something just felt right to me.  To this day, I can’t explain it, but I could just tell that I would be alright going here. This feeling was what ultimately allowed me to choose Marietta. I did not just blindly base my decision off of a feeling; Marietta really does have everything I could need. By the time I graduate, I will have taken classes in everything from directing to costuming.

The thing I love most about Marietta College would have to be the wide range of experience I am receiving. My first role my freshman year was as the lead role of Vindice in The Revenger’s Tragedy by Thomas Middleton. I was quite surprised to have such a large role my first semester of college and it is a role I will not soon forget. Being able to really jump right into the thick of things was immensely important to my growth as a performer.

This college has not only improved my acting ability and understanding of my craft through many classes and productions, it has opened my eyes to a whole new aspect of theatre that I love. I have discovered that I have a knack for lighting design and have enjoyed the experience and training I am receiving in this field as well.

To date, my credits at Marietta College include ACTING: Vindice (Revenger's Tragedy), Rochester (Jane Eyre: The Musical), Jim (Wasp), Tybalt (Romeo and Juliet), Herald (The Persians); TECHNICAL: Board Operation (Boom), Set Construction / Run Crew (La Ronde), Assistant Stage Manager (The Illusion), Board Operation (The Children's Hour), Assistant Lighting Design (Mineola Twins), Lighting Design (One-Act Festival 2010), and Lighting Designer (Cupid Rising). In the spring semester I will be performing in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum as Gymnasia, and Beat the Sunset as Sasha.
