- Updating Content or Creating a New Page for a Core Site
- Creating a New Form or Survey
- Developing a New Site (or Redesigning a Site) on Marietta.edu
The timeline for completing a project is dependent upon:
- the scope of the project,
- other demands on our staff, and
- the client's ability to provide content and timely feedback.
On average, please allow:
2 to 5 business days for updates and new additions to core pages.
3 to 10 business days for the creation of a form or survey.
4 to 10 weeks for the creation of a new site.
After College Relations creates a new site, clients should be prepared to maintain and update the new site.
Depending on the client's familiarity with HTML, this may require purchasing software such as Dreamweaver or FrontPage or accessing the software in a campus lab.
Updating Content or Creating a New Page for a Core Site
Web Services maintains the following Core sections of the Marietta.edu site:
About Marietta, Academics, Admission, Alumni, Fine Arts, Give to Marietta, International, Multicultural and Student LIfe.
To request an update to one of these sections, follow the steps below.
Process: 2 to 5 business days
- The client submits the new or revised content in an email or as an email attachment
(e.g., images or a Word document) to webadmin@marietta.edu.
Please include the URL of the page(s) you want updated. - College Relations creates the new page (or makes the changes) and notifies the client when the update is available.
- The client reviews the file and either identifies any necessary modifications or approves the changes.
Creating a New Form or Survey
- Editing and formatting text supplied by the client
- Creating "Contact Us" and "Information Request" forms that can be submitted to a College email address
- Developing registration forms for campus events such as jobs fairs, lectures or symposia that can be submitted to a College email address or imported into an Excel file
- Creating surveys for administrative evaluations that can be imported into an Excel file
Please Note: At this time, we are unable to create online surveys for classes or individual students.
Process: 3 to 10 business days
- The client creates a draft of the form/survey in Microsoft Word that includes:
- All fields that need to be captured (e.g., First Name, Last Name, Address, Attendance at an Event).
- An individual or group email address if the information is to be submitted by email.
- All questions and fixed answers, identifying how each answer should be formatted and, if needed, its range of responses. This includes:
- Drop-Down Menu (e.g., one chosen response from a series of options such as "Yes/No"; price range such as "$0-10/$11-20/$21-30")
- Radio Button (e.g., one chosen response such as "Yes/No"; Likert Scale of 1-5)
- Checkboxes (e.g., multiple responses "Check all that apply")
- Text Fields (e.g., open-ended responses)
- The client submits the document as an email attachment to webadmin@marietta.edu. If the information is intended to reach a specific email address, the client should include the target email address with the file.
- College Relations creates the new form/survey and notifies the client when the update is available.
- If the information is intended to be imported and formatted in Microsoft Excel, College Relations will create the appropriate complementary files. College Relations will also provide an Excel file with the relevant headers and instruct the client about how to import the data.
- College Relations can provide some background information about using Excel's shortcuts and spreadsheet formulas, but the client is responsible for formatting and analyzing all of the data.
Developing a New Web Site (or Redesigning a Site) on Marietta.edu
Process: 4 to 10 weeks
- The client completes a Job Request form.
- College Relations replies within two business days and schedules a meeting to discuss the project.
- The client supplies an outline of the site's components that addresses the following issues:
- Who are the primary and secondary audiences for the site?
- What are the primary goals of site and/or the message to be communicated to that audience?
- What are the sections (i.e., primary web pages) a user would see? Does each page effectively convey the intended messasge?
- Are photographs or other images readily available?
(College Relations has access to images used in a variety of print publications, including the viewbook and various alumni magazines.) - Does relevant text already exist in another format, such as course descriptions in the undergraduate catalog? (College Relations has the resources to create and gather images for the site, but the text of the site is the primary responsibility of the client.)
- Please Note: Site development is expedited if a client has prepared—and finalized—text for each section. (E.g., if a client wishes to describe recent research or a specific process as part of the site, the client must provide that text.)
- College Relations submits a draft of the site for client review. Depending on the scale of the job and its requirements, the client will either receive a set of images or a series of Web pages.
- The client provides College Relations with feedback and, as needed, College Relations provides modified or additional designs for review.
- The client authorizes site development and provides any additional content needed to complete the site. (E.g., text for a new section.)
- College Relations posts the site and provides a direct URL for a final client review.
- The client approves the final version of the site.
- College Relations moves the site to its final location on marietta.edu, and provides the username, password and instructions on how the client can access and modify the site.
After the creation of the site, the client should be prepared to maintain and update the site as needed. Depending on the client's familiarity with HTML, this may require purchasing software such as Dreamweaver or FrontPage or accessing the software in a campus lab.
