Circle K organization collecting items for 'Operation Easter Child'

Circle K, a student service organization at Marietta College, is helping children tsunami victims with a new program called Operation Easter Child.

Members of Circle K are conducting a special collection for boys and girls ages 2 to 14. Suggested items that are needed for donation are: child size T-shirts, shorts, underwear or sandals, school supplies, hygiene items (nothing liquid), small toys (include batteries if necessary), hard candy (lollipops or gum), and empty shoe boxes.

All donations should be made by March 31 in the Marietta College mailroom in Gilman Hall.

The Dec. 26, 2004, Indian Ocean tsunami killed more than 225,000 people in 12 countries. A tsunami is defined as an ocean wave with a long period that is formed by an underwater earthquake or landslide, or volcanic eruption. It may travel unnoticed across the ocean for thousands of miles from its point of origin and builds up to great heights over shallower water. It is also known as a seismic sea wave, and incorrectly, as a tidal wave.
