College announces 2007-08 student news leadership team
Eight Marietta College students were recently named the news team leaders for the TV and radio stations for 2007-08.
"We select students who are motivated, self-starters to manage our TV and radio stations," said Marilee M. Morrow, assistant professor of communication and media studies. "We have spent a lot of time with these students and know how they respond in deadline oriented situations."
For WCMO-TV, the station manager is Joshua Walker '08 of Sewickley Pa., the news director is Ashley Hill '08 of Vincent, Ohio, the production manager is Chris Blauvelt '08 of Murrysville, Pa., and the special features producer is Nicole Jackson '10 of Coolville, Ohio.
For WCMO-FM, the station manager is John Stack '08 of Jacobsburg, Ohio, and the station managers for WMRT-FM are Jessica Lang '10 of Newark, Ohio and Miaa Rigby '10 of Austintown, Ohio. The sports director for WCMO-TV, WCMO-FM and WMRT-FM is Seth Imhoff '08 of Wooster, Ohio.
"These students show superior planning, technical and writing skills. As a result, we are confident they will continue to build upon the foundation set by previous student managers in the McKinney Media Center. The skills these students perfect in these positions will impress future employers and ease their transition into the professional workforce," Morrow said.
WCMO-TV, located on Channel 15 on the local cable, is a student-run organization that generates local programming for the campus and the community. Students can gain experience as anchors, co-anchors, camerapersons and weathercasters.
WMRT-FM is a 9,200-watt stereo station with an audience throughout Southeast Ohio and West Virginia. WCMO-FM broadcasts travel information, an assortment of music genres, variety shows, news, and sports for the campus and area youth. Students can gain experience as board operators, announcers and disk jockeys on both WMRT-FM and WCMO-FM.
