Free food, T-shirts and more available at 2011 Baseball and Softball Community Days
In what has become one of the most anticipated events in Marietta each spring, Marietta College’s Sports Marketing class is excited to invite everyone to the fifth annual Community Softball Day (April 12) and Community Baseball Day (April 23).
It is the fifth year of the softball event and gates will open at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, as Coach Jeanne Arbuckle’s Pioneers take on Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital in a doubleheader that begins at 3:30 p.m.
Fans can expect many of the same traditions of past events, including a bunch of free stuff (on a first-come, first-serve basis)—hot dogs, Community Day T-shirts, Pepsi products, Broughton Ice Cream, Sno-cones, peanuts and more.
The class is also planning a 50/50 raffle and will give out free prizes every half inning to a lucky fan.
The fun and excitement continues 11 days later when the class hosts the 13th annual Community Baseball Day at Don Schaly Stadium.
Coach Brian Brewer’s nationally ranked Etta Express will battle John Carroll in an OAC doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 23. Gates will open at 11 a.m.
Many of the same activities will be on tap, including the free food and T-shirts, but the class also has a few Easter-themed events planned for the children in attendance.
Both of these dates are scheduled to be days of fun for the entire family as there will be no admission charged for either event. If inclement weather forces the postponement of the game, the class will conduct all Community Day activities on the date the game is scheduled to be replayed.
Each Community Day is run almost solely by students of Marietta College, and all funds for the day’s operations must be raised from the community. Sponsors for this year’s event are Blue & Gray Resources, Broughton Foods, Dixie Sporting Goods, IBEW #972/WV-OH Valley NECA, Larry Fouss Construction, The Locker Room, Marietta College Athletics, McDonalds of Marietta, Peoples Bank, Pepsi Co., Schultheis Insurance, Smitty’s Pizza, Triad Hunter, and WMOA Radio.
