Leadership students coordinating Red Cross fundraiser
A group of students from Marietta College's McDonough Center for Leadership and Business are coordinating a fundraiser for the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund that ends Nov. 25.
Celia Brockway '11, a member of the students who regularly volunteer at the local Red Cross, hopes their effort will encourage people to donate to what they believe is a good cause. "The fundraiser will be donated to the Red Cross to go toward Disaster Relief funds following this year's hurricane season," she said.
People can donate their money at various places around campus. The donation cans are located at Upper Gilman, Gilman Dining Hall, Izzy's, Dorothy Webster parlor, Dyson Baudo Recreation Center information desk, Book Store and the mailroom.
Another way individuals can help is by texting the word "give" to 2HELP (24357). Subscribers of participating wireless networks which include AT&T, Alltel, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon, donate $5 when they text and the donations appear on the monthly bills.
The American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling, and other assistance to the victims of thousands of disasters across the country each year, disasters like the Hurricanes of 2008.
