Marietta College has appointed Michele Marra as Vice President for Administration & Finance and Chief Financial Officer, effective January 1, 2017.

Marra served as Assistant Vice President for Finance for the past year, after initially joining Marietta in September 2015 on a contract basis as an interim controller.

“If you had told me 18 months ago that I would be in this position, I wouldn’t have believed it,” she said. “Once I started working at Marietta College, I fell in love with the people, the campus, and the community. I am extremely excited for this opportunity and to work with President (William) Ruud.”

Marra replaces Dan Bryant, who served the College as VP for Administration & Finance for the past 15 years.

“I am delighted that Michele was excited about this opportunity and wanted to remain at Marietta College in this new role,” Ruud said. “In the six months I have worked with her, she has impressed me with her ability to oversee a large and complex budget like Marietta’s, inspire her team and provide a strong voice on the senior leadership team — all of which will serve the entire institution well. I am confident she will be a strong and motivational leader for the Office of Finance and Administration. I look forward to working with Michele in the years to come as we continue to move this prestigious college forward.”

A Certified Public Accountant, Marra has worked as a consultant since 1984, and was most recently the CFO for the Schools Employees Retirement System in Columbus, Ohio, from 2010-13. She has also served as the CFO for Ohio Tuition Trust Authority in Columbus from 2003-10, while also holding financial positions with Borden Chemical Inc., Borden Capital Management Partners, Parr Emergency Product Sales Inc., Victoria Secret Stores, Inc., Quorum Corp., and Somerville & Co. CPAs.

“I’m excited to continue working with the College’s dynamic Board of Trustees and the talented and dedicated staff and faculty,” she said. “Our ultimate goal at the College is to provide the lifelong fundamental educational core of leadership and learning for our students. I am honored to play a role in the students’ ability to gain that experience at Marietta College.”

Marra has two grown children, Shelly and Ben, and two grandchildren, Graham and Lindy.
