MC petroleum program receives $10,000 grant from ChevronTexaco
Dr. Robert W. Chase, chair of the Edwy R. Brown Department of Petroleum Engineering and Geology at Marietta College, announced the department recently received a $10,000 grant from ChevronTexaco Products Company. Chase said the grant will provide scholarships, offset expenses associated with the Society of Petroleum Engineering student chapter, and add support for the petroleum engineering program overall.
"Chevron's support for our program is critical to our ability to continue to turn out graduates that meet the expectations of Chevron and the petroleum industry in general," Chase said. "Marietta College is a small, private liberal arts college and is the only such school in the country with a petroleum engineering program. We do not have a graduate program to help subsidize our undergraduate program operations."
A portion of the ChevronTexaco grant funded eight $500 scholarships, which were awarded to the following students in recognition of their strong academic effort in petroleum engineering as well as involvement in SPE and other activities:
Mark A. Dean, son of Dawn and Jim Milleson of Gnadenhutten, Ohio. A graduate of Indian Valley High School, Dean is a junior at MC.
Jeremy M. Jones, son of Cinda and Mike Jones of Belpre, Ohio. A graduate of Belpre High School, Jones is a junior at MC.
Chad A. Kavander, of Lancaster, Ohio. A graduate of Liberty Union High School, Kavander is a senior at MC.
Zachary S. Lemon, son of Terry and Donald Lemon of Mineral Wells, W.Va. A graduate of Parkersburg South High School, Lemon is a senior at MC.
Clinton Lane Perkins, son of Judy and Deryl Perkins of St. Marys, W.Va. A graduate of St. Marys High School, Perkins is a freshman at MC.
Charles R. Reynolds, son of Kimberly and John Reynolds of Shaker Heights, Ohio. A graduate of Shaker Heights High School, Reynolds is a sophomore at MC.
Jeconda N. Smith, daughter of Tammy Jackson and Darren Lang of Waterford, Ohio. A graduate of Waterford High School, Smith is a junior at MC.
Amie L. Weis, of Burlington, Wis. A graduate of Central High School in Salem, Wis., Weis is a senior at MC.
