McCoy History professor to autograph new book on Sept. 4

Marietta College’s Dr. Jim O’Donnell, a McCoy Professor of History, will autograph copies of his new book about Hiram Carpenter from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 4, at The Greenhouse in St. Marys, W.Va.

Published by the Marshall University Press, Out of the Mud: Hiram Carpenter, 1915-1950 follows the business career of Carpenter from 1915 to 1950. Known for a time as the “Potato King” of West Virginia, Carpenter succeeded in building a toll bridge across the Ohio River at St. Marys in the late 1920s. The modern highway bridge was named to honor that farsighted businessman.

Profits from sales benefit the John Deaver Drinko Honors Academy at Marshall. For information: 1-888-256-6671.
