Youngstown State Associate VP to kick off 2016-17 Economic Roundtable season

Michael Hripko, Associate Vice President for Research at Youngstown State University, will be the first speaker in the 2016-17 season for the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley.

Hripko will be at the Marietta Country Club at noon, Wednesday, Sept. 7. He will speak about “Economic Development in the Mahoning Valley: Opportunities and Solutions.”

Hripko was appointed to his current position in June of 2015. Additionally, he leads the YSU Regional Economic Development Initiative (REDI), in seeking to improve the economic well-being and stability throughout the Mahoning Valley.

Hripko previously worked at America Makes as Deputy Director of Workforce and Educational Outreach and enjoyed a 31-year career with Delphi Packard Electric Systems, in Warren, Ohio, from which he retired as Manager of Product Management and Pricing in 2008.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Dayton, a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (Operations Research) from the University of Iowa, and an M.B.A. from Kent State University.

A short three weeks later will be the second of five speakers this season. Nick Pinchuk, President and CEO of Snap-On, Inc., will be at the Parkersburg Country Club at noon, Wednesday, Sept. 28. He will be followed by Attorney Tony Fiore of Kegler Brown Hill + Ritter at noon, Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Marietta Country Club.

The spring 2017 schedule has two speakers — Douglas Dillon Fellow Varun Sivaram at noon, Friday, March 24, at the Marietta Country Club, and Economist and Attorney Robert Litan of Korein Tillery LLC at noon, Tuesday, April 18, at the Parkersburg Country Club.

The Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley is a non-partisan non-political educational organization that formed in 1982 as a result of collaboration between the Business and Economics Department at Marietta College and a group of business, civic and educational leaders. The object of the Economic Roundtable is to promote an interest in and to enlighten its members and others in the community on important governmental, economic, and social issues. Since its inception, the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley has presented the Ohio Valley with more than 160 distinguished speakers who have enlightened and informed ERT members with their fascinating discussion on a broad scope of governmental, economic and social issues.
