Gallery 310 will host its first exhibition of the 2017-18 academic year with "I Embody..." from September 1st until October 6th. Artwork can be viewed from noon-4:00 p.m., Monday, October 2nd, in Gallery 310 on the third floor of the Hermann Fine Arts Center.
The exhibition title stems from Adrian Piper's 1975 piece “I Embody Everything You Most Hate and Fear.” Piper’s lifetime oeuvre deals with race, gender, socioeconomic status, and identity, which are all topics as relevant today as 1975. “I Embody…” is an invitational exhibition of multi-generational female artists from all around the east coast. “I Embody…” is the call, and each artist will respond with a brief statement (1-200 words) indicating what they represent as a woman in the arts, in the United States, in her work, in our collective society, etc.
